Mystery Gallery 3

The originals of the pictures in this Mystery Gallery were obtained from the on-line holdings of the National Archives. There are hundreds of pictures there, but there are many errors in identification of the subjects of the pictures. Some identifications are fragmentary; others are totally wrong. (For example, two Union Army generals are identified as Navy admirals.)

The pictures shown in this gallery are ones for which I haven't yet been able to find reliable identifying data. Some of the names are incomplete; some may be completely wrong. Ranks of many are obviously not their Civil War ranks. And some of these gentlemen may not have seen service in the war at all. I'm going to keep on trying to find reliable identifying data for these people. I hope some of the visitors to this site will recognize some of them and lend a hand. It would be greatly appreciated.

The pictures are presented in no logical order whatever. The identifying data is what accompanied the originals on the National Archives site.
